Helping local families in crisis or transition

The Giving Tree of Hummelstown and Hershey celebrates 20 years of supporting local families in crisis or transition.

Thanks to our committed volunteer members and valued relationships, we help an average of 150 families each year in Lower Dauphin and Derry Township school districts.

2024 PROJECTS NEEDING YOUR HELP...

Snack bags for Lower Dauphin Falcon Packs – May/June

The Giving Tree will be providing healthy snack bags for Falcon Pack recipients. These snack bags include several healthy snack options for students to help bridge the gap once school lets out and free or reduced priced meals are not available to them. We will need volunteers to help assemble these bags. Stay tuned to our Facebook page for more information on assembling the kits. Target date is around May 17. If interested in helping, please contact Kim Balogat kimbalog15@gmail.com

Books for Jump Start Kindergarten Readiness Program – June

Books to be delivered to Lower Dauphin schools to support reading skills over the summer.

Hygiene Kits – August

Starting in July, we will accept donations of shampoo, bars of soap, deodorant, toothbrushes, and toothpaste to fill kits for families in Lower Dauphin schools. These kits help cut costs for parents who are struggling with all the back to school demands for their kids. Donations can be dropped off at 40 Waverly Dr, Hummelstown. More information will follow on our Facebook page.

Female Sanitary Products Collection - August

This project is in its third year. All the donated sanitary pads and tampons we get are distributed to the school nurses to keep available when the need arises. This was a funded program from
grants and big corporations in the past, but sadly it is no longer provided. School budgets are tight, and the need is high in the schools. Our Facebook page will post collection dates and
where to drop off items in mid-summer.

Coat drive – October/November

To help support our families and assist growing children to have a warm winter coat each year, we will be helping alongside several other local nonprofits in our Lower Dauphin community to purchase a new warm winter coat for our elementary school students.

Fruit baskets – December

Fruit baskets will be delivered to the Food Banks in Grantville, Hummelstown, and Hershey in mid December. This is a simple but very much appreciated project.
